Panel Platform Clients

Panel Service

The SoftwareIDM Panel Service performs all data collection, as well as performing tasks that need to occur on a regular interval, such as running schedules, instructing the web application to process the full text index queue, and performing health checks and workflows.

Panel Tool

When you install Panel platform, PanelTool.exe is added to PATH environment variable. This means that PanelTool can be executed from any command prompt without changing to the SoftwareIDM\IdentityPanel directory. The first time you use PanelTool will probably be to run a full scan to populate the MA settings, however PanelTool can be used to execute schedules, restart the panel service, scan data from providers, and perform health checks and workflows.

Panel Tool

When you launch PanelTool.exe, it loads the settings from Identity Panel and prepares a menu based on those settings. After making changes to settings you can execute the Reload command to refresh the menu.

PanelTool prints a Usage list of commands and a Menu. You can run PanelTool commands by entering the Menu number and pressing <Enter>, or by entering the corresponding command and pressing <Enter>. When running PanelTool in interactive mode it is usually easier to use the menu numbers. PanelTool also supports a non-interactive mode for use in scheduled scripts. If you pass one of the commands listed under "Usage" as an argument to PanelTool (e.g. PanelTool --lastrun), PanelTool will execute the command then exit.

Starting and Refreshing the Service

When the SoftwareIDM Panel Service is installed, it defaults to a startup type of manual, and is stopped. The panel service should not be started until a license has been applied using the Web UI, and initial settings have been populated. That this time, the service startup type can be chanced to automatic.
